Confucius
Chinese moral philosopher
Chinese teacher and philosopher (551-479 BCE).
Lived through the chaos of the Spring and Autumn period, mostly unable to get rulers to actually listen. Like Socrates, he wrote nothing — his students collected his sayings into the Analects after his death. His ideas became state ideology under the Han dynasty and shaped China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam for ~2,500 years.
