Polish astronomer (1473-1543) who moved Earth out of the center of the universe.
A canon, physician, and economist who did astronomy on the side, he worked out that Earth orbits the Sun — not the other way around. Terrified of ridicule, he sat on the idea for decades and only published as he lay dying.
