First woman to win at Olympia
Spartan princess whose chariot team took the Olympic crown twice.
Women could not enter the stadium at Olympia, but the olive crown in the chariot race went to the owner of the horses, not the driver. She bred and trained the team, won in 396 and again in 392 BCE, and put up a statue whose inscription says plainly that she is the only woman in all Greece to have taken the crown.
