Tycho Brahe
Master of the naked-eye sky
Danish astronomer (1546-1601), the greatest observer before telescopes.
His measurements were so precise they later let Kepler crack the planets' orbits. He lost part of his nose in a student duel and wore a metal replacement, kept a pet elk and a 'seer' dwarf, and ruled his own island observatory like a prince.
