Ancient Greek mathematician and engineer from Syracuse (c. 287-212 BCE).
Stepped into a bath, watched the water rise, and ran naked through the streets shouting 'Eureka!' Held off a Roman siege of Syracuse for two years with cranes that lifted enemy ships out of the water. Killed mid-equation by a Roman soldier — his last words reportedly: 'Don't disturb my circles.'
