Charles Babbage
Father of the computer
English mathematician and inventor (1791-1871) who designed the first computers.
He conceived the Difference Engine and the programmable Analytical Engine a century before electronics existed — mechanical machines of brass and gears. Neither was finished in his lifetime, but his collaborator Ada Lovelace wrote what's considered the first algorithm for them.
