Italian sculptor, painter, and architect (1475-1564).
He carved the David from a block other artists had rejected and spent four punishing years painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling, despite insisting he was a sculptor, not a painter. Restless and fierce, he was still designing St. Peter's dome in his late 80s.
