Father of surgery
Ancient Indian physician (c. 6th century BC), pioneering surgeon.
His treatise, the Sushruta Samhita, described hundreds of operations and surgical tools — including cataract removal and reconstructive nose surgery — over two thousand years ago. Much of it predates anything comparable in the West.
